Paying my respects

Before I begin this week’s newsletter, I must acknowledge how incredibly saddened I was to learn of the tragic house fire on St Patrick’s Way in Bletchley last week, which caused the deaths of Zainab Kazinja and Ann Eyre. This was a horrible shock to the community and my team and I will be liaising closely with the relevant authorities as more details emerge.

I would also like to pay my respects to Ranjit Singh. He tirelessly contributed to our community, and showed me great warmth and kindness when I was elected last year. My thoughts are with Zainab, Ann, and Ranjit’s loved ones.

Parliament was in recess last week. This meant that I was back in the city, towns and villages which I proudly represent. More details can be found in the ‘local activities’ section on what I’ve been up to, and who I visited.

A big highlight was launching the Bletchley Investment Taskforce (in the fantastic setting of MK Dons) on Friday. I’d like to thank the public and private sector partners who sat with me around the table, you could really feel the enthusiasm in the room. Here’s the write up in MK Citizen, and there’ll be more to come soon.

I’ll always fight for local people. This is why I wrote to Buckinghamshire Council to call for urgent action to improve children’s services, and why I followed up with Anglian Water on their plans to improve sewage capacity issues. Our children deserve the best support possible, and our residents deserve clean water.

Ending this email with some news which made my weekend - three schools (George Grenville Academy, Priory Rise School, and Bourton Meadow Academy) in our patch have received funding from the Department for Education to get much-needed building upgrades. Overall we are providing almost £470m nationally to improve where our kids learn.

As always, thank you for reading. If there is anything I can do to help you, please get in touch.

Local visits

In the constituency I:

  • Spent my Sunday afternoon in Tattenhoe with the Mayor of Milton Keynes speaking to residents about local and national issues.

  • Was also out and about in Fenny Stratford with Councillors to discuss with local people how we can make Milton Keynes an even better place to live.

  • Held my regular constituency surgery in Winslow on welfare reform.

  • Stopped by The Green Man in Mursley and the Woolpack in Buckingham to show my support for our local independent hospitality businesses.

  • Took part in a roundtable with Bucks-based small businesses on how our Government can support them.

  • Visited Bycell Farm (just outside Maids Moreton) to chat with the Hazelwood family about the challenges and issues facing British farming.

  • Had the absolute pleasure of visiting Litslade Farm Care Home in Newton Longville, where I got to see first-hand just how dedicated their staff are.
