VE Day and football governance
Being an MP is an honour and a privilege, and one of the parts of the role I take most seriously is honouring our veterans. As most of you will know, on this Thursday we are celebrating VE Day, and I am looking forward to getting out and about across our patch to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
In case you missed it, in my most recent Callum’s column I’ve written about why I believe VE Day this year should be more than a day of remembrance – it should be a day of participation. Here’s also a list of local activities taking place.
In other news (and fitting considering MK Dons announced a rebrand today), I proudly voted for the Football Governance Bill last week, and as a big football fan I’ve been doing a fair amount to promote the grassroots game - both in and out of Westminster. Click here to watch me explain why the Bill will benefit fans and clubs alike, as well as what I’ve been up to locally.
This is a shorter newsletter this week, with lots of my time being taken up by football legislation and local elections (I can never say that my job doesn’t have variety). So I’ll end with The Dons! With it now being mathematically confirmed that they are staying up, here’s hoping that the rebrand represents a bigger and bolder ‘25-’26 season….
