Local Flooding
What I’ve done so far
Over recent months I have been working closely with Flood Action 4 Buckingham (FA4B) to support their campaign for more to be done to mitigate and alleviate flooding in our town
What have I been doing? As your Member of Parliament, I have engaged extensively with Buckinghamshire Council, which has responsibility for coordinating flood risk management, as well as the Environment Agency (EA) and Buckingham Town Council.
This followed on from meetings I held with severely impacted businesses, residents and organisations in Well Street, Ford Street, and Bridge Street in Buckingham in December 2024.
I also conducted a Waterways Survey on our water infrastructure and shared dozens of constituent responses with the newly-established Independent Water Commission - which is due to give its recommendations later on in the year.
In addition, I've welcomed EA funding for a project in Thornborough which will improve fish and eel passage, provide environmental enhancements to ensure there is no increase in flood risk to people and property from the failure of the structure, and reduce associated maintenance costs. This £299k investment is only the first step in the level of infrastructure investment we need in North Buckinghamshire.
My team are being proactive on this issue, and this week we have posted hundreds (this picture is a small snippet) of letters to residents who may have been affected by flooding to ask them to report it to the EA. It's imperative that we know the scale of local flooding.
If there is anything more I can do to support Buckingham and North Buckinghamshire to be better protected against floods - or if you have been affected yourself - please pop me an email at Callum.Anderson.MP@Parliament.UK
