Westminster updates - September ‘26:
Over the past month (or so) in Westminster, I:
Pressed for progress on East West Rail, writing to the Transport Secretary and Chiltern Railways, meeting East West Rail representatives and the new Chiltern Railways leadership following public ownership, and continuing to push for passenger services between Oxford, Winslow, Bletchley and Milton Keynes to begin as soon as possible.
Worked with partners including East West Rail Company, Milton Keynes City Council and local leaders to maintain momentum behind Bletchley Station's new eastern entrance, a key project for the regeneration of Bletchley town centre.
Welcomed the Government's introduction of a new right to bereavement leave, giving families greater support following the loss of a loved one, including pregnancy loss.
Welcomed the NHS approval of Enhertu for eligible women with HER2-low breast cancer, helping more patients access life-extending treatment.
Joined fellow Milton Keynes MPs in calling on Ofcom and Royal Mail to tackle ongoing postal delays and improve reliability for local residents.
Spoke in Parliament and met with charities, campaigners, businesses and ministers on issues including SEND support, childhood cancer care, hospice funding, artificial intelligence in financial services, climate resilience, farming and devolution. In addition I had the pleasure of celebrating the Florence Nightingale Charity Shop in Winslow in the chamber, recognising the extraordinary contribution of volunteers and fundraisers across our community.
Supported reforms to strengthen SEND provision, improve coordination between health and education services and ensure children receive the support they need.
Welcomed Government action to help cover travel costs for children with cancer and their families, reducing the financial burden of accessing treatment.
Continued to champion greater devolution for our area, making the case for stronger local powers to unlock jobs, housing, transport improvements and economic growth across the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor.
Ahead of Labour Party conference, I also wrote this piece on what I think we need to do to renew our party and country (if you’d like a longer read)
