Summer School Programme: Applications now open!

I’m delighted to be launching a new Summer School programme this year for local young people. I’m often asked about meaningful work experience, and this initiative is designed to offer a genuine insight into my work, my team, and the many roles that make up political life.

At its heart, the week-long Summer Schools aim to open up and demystify politics - because it should feel accessible to everyone, whatever their background. The programme offers a practical introduction to the day‑to‑day work of an MP, with a strong focus on supporting constituents and serving the local community.

The Summer School programme is open to 16–18 year olds Participants will gain hands-on experience in constituency work, alongside time in Westminster, including a visit to my office in London to see how Parliament works in practice.

Dates/location

I am hosting two separate Summer Schools between:

  • 20-24 July, (10am-4pm)

  • 27-31 July, (10am-4pm)

Both will be based in my constituency office, with one day in Westminster.

I am looking for young people who are:

  • Calm, polite, and confident, with empathy when working with others

  • Eager to learn and develop new skills

  • Strong team players

  • Discreet and respectful of confidentiality

  • Motivated by public service, with an interest in politics and civic life

You don’t have to have studied politics to apply! I promise the above person specification is far more important.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with real casework and see how constituents are supported

  • Learn how an MP’s office advocates for local people

  • Help research and draft responses to enquiries

  • Support diary management and community events

  • Gain insight into communications and public engagement

This is a chance to build practical skills, grow confidence, and better understand how politics and public service work - both locally and nationally.

How to apply

Please submit to hannah.oneill@parliament.uk the below information:

  • Your CV

  • A short covering letter outlining your skills and motivation

  • A reference from a teacher, coach, or tutor

Applicants should also answer:

  1. Why do you want to take part in this Summer School?

  2. What is one thing you would change in your local area, and how could politics help bring about that change?

Please note, applicants must be at least 16 years old at the start of the placement and live within the Buckingham and Bletchley constituency. Plus, it would be extremely helpful if you could indicate your availability for both of the weeks on offer.
