Standing up for safer roads in North Bucks
I have written to Cllr Thomas Broom to demand urgent action on the unacceptable state of our roads across North Buckinghamshire.
For months, residents have been contacting me about the sheer scale of the problem. Potholes are no longer just an irritation or a minor inconvenience - they are becoming a serious safety hazard. From Tingewick to Gawcott and right across the north of our county, people are telling the same story: cars being damaged, cyclists forced into dangerous manoeuvres, and drivers swerving to avoid craters that should have been fixed long ago.
This is not just about comfort; it is about safety. Poor road conditions increase the risk of accidents, damage vehicles that families rely on for work and school, and make everyday journeys more stressful than they should ever be. Cyclists and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable, and no one should feel unsafe simply trying to get from A to B.
What makes this situation even more frustrating is that Buckinghamshire Council has been given funding to repair and maintain our roads. Residents therefore quite rightly expect transparency and fairness in how that money is being spent. In my letter, I have asked for clear answers about where repairs are taking place, how priorities are being set, and whether communities in North Buckinghamshire are receiving their fair share of investment.
Too often, people feel their concerns disappear into a black hole. That is not acceptable. Local residents deserve to know when repairs will happen, why certain roads are chosen over others, and how long-standing issues are being addressed. Accountability matters - especially when public money is involved.
I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to contact me about road conditions in their area. Your emails and messages make a real difference. They help me build an accurate picture of what is happening on the ground and strengthen my case when I raise these issues with the Council. Please do keep reporting problems to me.
I will continue pressing for proper maintenance, clear communication, and fair treatment for our towns and villages. Safe, well-maintained roads should not depend on where you live or how loudly you complain. They are a basic expectation and a vital part of our local infrastructure.
Everyone deserves safe roads, wherever they live, and I will keep fighting to make sure North Buckinghamshire gets the attention and action it deserves.
