Fixing our waterways

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, particularly those of you celebrating Mother’s Day or Eid al-Fitr on Sunday.

In Parliament I was thrilled to see Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson confirm an extra £740mn investment for SEND in this coming financial year. That means an additional £8.5mn for Buckinghamshire and £3.3mn for Milton Keynes. This is a big step in the right direction, but I’m determined to keep working hard to give parents and children the support they need.

Here at home, I’ve launched a survey to hear your views on our local waterways. Earlier this month Labour’s ground breaking Water Act became law – with new powers to ban the payment of unfair bonuses for polluting water bosses. But we want to do more and go further. This is why we have launched the Independent Water Commission to explore fresh ideas on water sector reforms. That’s why I’m collecting experiences from local people. Fill in my survey here and have your voice heard.

Please do have a read of what I’ve been up to and I hope you have a lovely week ahead.

Local visits

Last week in the constituency I:

  • Recently visited the new Winslow station to learn more about the benefits East West Rail will bring to our area

  • Met with local activists raising money for brain tumour research at their Wear a Hat Day lunch

  • Spoke to residents across Page Hill and Western Avenue about their local concerns

  • Held a surgery in Bletchley to help local residents with issues like housing and healthcare.

In Westminster

Back in Westminster I:

  • Met with the Country Land and Business Association to discuss supporting rural communities in Buckinghamshire

  • Voted for the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to unlock growth and get Britain building

  • Attended the Labour Growth Group’s Investor Forum to understand more about how we can work with the private sector to deliver this government’s growth mission
