Constituency Assistant  

Part-time (four days per week), £22,400 per year (equivalent to £28,000 full-time)

Post overview

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of Callum’s Buckingham and Bletchley constituency office. Working within a small, committed team, you will contribute to the full breadth of constituency work - from office administration and casework support to accompanying Callum at local events. 

This is a dynamic and hugely rewarding position, well suited to someone who thrives in a busy environment. It calls for empathy, sound judgement and excellent organisational skills, alongside the ability to manage a diverse workload with efficiency, accuracy and discretion. 

Key responsibilities

  • Diary management and organisation of constituency meetings and events.  

  • Assisting at surgeries and other meetings - following up as appropriate. 

  • Attending constituency meetings and events. 

  • Supporting management of local projects and campaigns. 

  • Supporting day-to-day casework. This includes logging cases, monitoring progress and ensuring all identified actions are taken.  

  • Ensuring all enquiries are managed with sensitivity and confidentiality, and responded to promptly. 

  • Gathering relevant information from external agencies to assist with resolving cases. 

  • Drafting professional and accurate responses to constituents. 

  • Ensuring records are kept and information are managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation (GDPR).  

The post holder should be ready to undertake other duties as required and prepared to work outside of the normal working hours, including occasional travel and attending events with Callum.

Essential skills and experience: 

  • Diary management and organising meetings and events. 

  • Direct public facing customer service or frequent public engagement. 

  • The ability to communicate effectively in writing.

  • Excellent organisation, planning, and prioritisation capabilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Proven capability to work collaboratively within a team.

Desirable Skills: 

  • Experience of responding to casework a bonus. 

Personal attributes: 

  • Calm, polite, confident, and empathetic when engaging with the public. 

  • A high level of discretion and confidentiality.  

  • A public service ethos – with a strong commitment to helping Callum deliver on his aspiration to be a proactive, accessible, and visible Member of Parliament. 

  • Willingness to get involved across the breadth of Callum’s and the team’s work. 

  • Driven to improve the lives of people across the Buckingham and Bletchley constituency and the UK more broadly. 

  • Sympathetic with the aims and values of the Labour Party.
