Happy St George’s Day

Happy St George’s Day everyone! I hope you are all celebrating by doing something quintessentially English today - I for one am currently sipping a much-needed cup of tea.

On the subject of St George’s Day, one of the things that makes me most proud to be English is our beautiful waterways. And whilst action has started to clean up the (literal) mess made by the previous government, more needs to be done. This is why I would like to thank the dozens of constituents who submitted their views through my waterways survey. They have been passed on to the Independent Water Commission, which will make its final recommendations over the summer.

I also cannot write this newsletter without expressing my deep sadness following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. His loss will be felt deeply by millions of people of faith — and by many beyond the Church — who were inspired by his words, his leadership, and his example. My thoughts are especially with those who attend St Bernardine’s Church in Buckingham, and St Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and All Saints Catholic Church in Bletchley, as they gather in prayer and remembrance.

I’m now back in Parliament after a lovely couple of weeks over the Easter Recess across Buckingham, Bletchley, Tattenhoe, Winslow and the many villages in between (more below on what I got up to).

I’m feeling ready to go and am full of energy - if there is anything I can help you with in Westminster or closer to home, please do let me know.

Local visits

In the constituency I:

  • Had the opportunity to visit Silverstone and speak to their Chief Executive on how our Government can support one of our finest British events.

  • Met with the Buckinghamshire Care Providers Association on what is needed financially to keep our adult social care services running.

  • Wrote to local housebuilders asking them to play their part in stopping ‘fleecehold’. Read more here.

  • Held two constituency surgeries in the Lakes Estate and in Buckingham.

Campaigned for Josh Hunter in Winslow and had lots of good conversations about the need for better SEND provision and better roads in north Buckinghamshire.

  • Spoke about crime with the Thames Valley Police and employees at the Co-Op in Winslow (which has been broken into twice recently). Here are some reflections from me.

  • Listened to representatives from our local Fawcett Society on making a fairer, healthier Milton Keynes for women.
