Callum’s Catch Up 12.09.25
Back to school
How is it September already?! Parliament is back in full swing and summer recess feels like a distant - albeit very fond - memory.
Over the summer, I was busy across our constituency, meeting with local residents, organisations, and campaigners. I’ve put together a blog summarising my activities in July and August, which you can read here. I’m really keen to share what I do as your representative with you, and I hope this article gives a flavour of the wide-ranging nature of my role.
And since it is September, it was only fitting that this month’s Callum’s Column had a ‘back to school’ theme. Click here to read more about how our government is supporting local schools, and why I firmly believe in education, education, education (to borrow an old mantra!).
One issue I hear about time and again is the need to improve the SEND system. I’ve heard from hundreds of families how difficult it is to navigate and access the support they need. To make sure your voices are heard loud and clear in Westminster, I’m holding two SEND Summits:
Bletchley – 5.30–7.00pm, 19 September
Winslow – 9.30–11.30am, 20 September
These events are open to every constituent (and constituents-only I’m afraid), and I encourage you to come along or share the details with others who may want to contribute. More info and locations can be found here.
I will always do my best to focus on our shared local priorities, and this is why I was pleased to see Anglian Water’s fine confirmed this week (here’s a piece from earlier in the summer from us local MPs on this).
This is also why I am joining Chris Curtis MP and Emily Darlington MP to campaign for fairer funding for Willen Hospice, which you can read more about here. It’s essential we ensure everyone in our community can access the healthcare and end-of-life support they need and deserve – and I’ll continue to campaign hard on this.
In the meantime, if there is anything I can ever help you with - please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Above all else, I am here to serve you.
Constituency
Over the past couple of weeks in Buckingham and Bletchley I:
Had a very busy Saturday visiting the Buckingham Dog Show, the Newton Longville Village Fair, and the Padbury Produce show (where I couldn’t help but buy a few things to take home).
Joined the Edgott and Winslow Young Farmers in a meeting with the Department for Environmental and Rural Affairs on how we can best support local agriculture.
Celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Tingewick Community Cafe.
Met with colleagues from Milton Keynes City Council to discuss issues affecting the whole city.
Visited our local Volkswagen Depot to find out more about their production of electric vehicles.
Westminster
In Westminster I:
Voted in favour of the Bus Services Bill to give local councils more power to run their buses, the Hereditary Peers Bill to reform the House of Lords, and the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill to further devolve power away from Westminster.
Spoke at Defence Questions, and Treasury Questions.
Took part in the Pension Schemes Bill Committee.
Met with the new Secretary of State for the Environment, Emma Reynolds (pictured), on how we can best underpin food security and economic security.
Spoke at the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association’s conference on unlocking investment in nations and the regions.
